In First Grade at Neely, we spend a great amount of time learning the Spalding Phonograms. Knowing the phonograms allows the students to be able to spell words correctly and read with ease. We also emphasize reading comprehension and teach specific strategies to help students understand what they are reading. We have an accelerated math program and also provide additional math support for students who need extra time to learn concepts. Another area of emphasis in First Grade is citizenship, which I believe, is just as important as the academics. In our classroom, I emphasize proper citizenship and the students have lots of opportunities to practice and refine their skills. First Grade is a GREAT place to learn!!
I have taught Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade for nineteen years, mostly in Tempe and Gilbert. I’ve been at Neely for nine wonderful years! I have had extensive graduate training in the area of Early Childhood and Reading. I love being a teacher at Neely! I have a very special family, including two grown kids, in their early twenties, a fiance, parents, brother, sister, and all of their kids...all living here in Gilbert! In my spare time, I love to garden, cook, fish, and camp.
